Lucyshyn, who has been with Sun Devil Dining since 2007 and employed at the Barrett Dining Center since 2009, has his own reason to smile, too. He recently received the ProChef II Certification from The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), the world’s premier culinary college. The program was created to provide hands-on skill validation, recognize professional achievement and provide knowledge and credentials to advance culinary careers. Certification from the CIA is considered the ultimate stamp of approval. To receive the certification, a chef must demonstrate competency in basic food science, baking and nutrition, basic management and supervisory skills, and understanding of basic concepts of financial controls of a food operation. Chef Drew’s ProChef II certification is the latest in a history peppered with accomplishments. He has worked in kitchens across the United States and Europe and has cooked for celebrities including comedians Penn and Teller, Vice President Al Gore, actors Robert Redford, Uma Thurman, Dustin Hoffman and Harrison Ford, singer Liza Minelli, athletes Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzki, and television interviewer Larry King. He also has been a food and wine educator for over 25 years.
